For businesses with rapidly changing IT environments, the scalable design of the new NEO XL-Series of tape libraries allows them to grow into, not out of, their long-term backup and archive storage solution. Users can significantly increase their data storage capability without the time, disruption and administrative expense associated with reconfiguring the network settings or backup process. The NEO XL-Series starts with 90TB of data storage capacity, and provides the ability to increase that storage capacity up to 3.5PB by effortlessly adding additional NEO XL-Series modules. Similarly, when business needs change, scaled NEO XL-Series modules can easily be de-coupled and re-deployed throughout the data center as needed.
"Today's businesses are experiencing hyper-growth in their corporate data, which in turn dramatically increases the cost of managing their storage," said Nilesh Patel, Vice President of Product Management and Product Marketing atOverland Storage. "Recent innovations in density, high-performance data transfer rates, and end-to-end data management software make tape infrastructure an integral part of today's backup and long-term retention solutions. With six times better transfer rate performance and 64% more density per rack unit compared to the nearest competitors in its class, NEO XL establishes a new, unmatched watermark of value compared to any other competitive options in the industry."
The 6u form-factor NEO XL-Series is now available in two configurations, utilizing both LTO5 and LTO6 tape drive technologies, and scales up to 560 slots and 42 tape drives. The NEOxl 60 supports up to three drives with capacity ranging from 90TB to 375TB, and data transfer rates from 504 GB/hour to 4.3TB/hour. The NEOxl 80 supports up to six drives with capacity ranging from 120TB to 500TB, and data transfer rates from 504 GB/hour to 8.6TB/hour. A NEOxl Expansion unit that supports 80 slots/6 drives is also available.
NEO XL-Series Key Features:
Flexible Growth as Storage Needs Change: The scalable design of the NEO XL-Series allows customization of backup and archive solutions by starting out as a 6u, 60-slot, single-drive library and scaling up to 560 slots and 42 tape drives. The seamless design of NEO XL libraries allows customers to add both data cartridges and tape drives as needs grow, instead of requiring a choice between capacity and performance.
Significant Reduction in Time to Backup Large Amounts of Data: With capacities ranging from 90TB to 3.5PB, NEO XL-Series libraries are ideal for a wide-range of data storage applications. Delivering lightning-fast data throughput capabilities at speeds ranging from 504GB per hour to 8.6TB per hour, the NEO XL-Series tape libraries can significantly reduce backup and archive time, as well as shorten the time to restore data.
Operational Simplicity & Infrastructure Efficiency: Taking advantage of NEO XL-Series enterprise-class manageability allows IT administrators to easily configure, manage and administer the data backup and archive process, while utilizing NEO XL's native partitioning capability enables secure multi-application access to each NEO XL tape library for the optimum in data storage efficiency. Packing up to 83TB of storage capacity into each unit of rack space, NEO XL-Series tape libraries minimize the use of valuable datacenter rack and floor space, reduce power and cooling requirements, and reduce hardware costs.
